Making an alliance

To design a fair-trade gold wedding band, a number of different steps are required. Before discussing them, it's important to note that these highly technical processes require real expertise on the part of our jewelers.

Most of the work is carried out in our own workshop, but we sometimes need to call on more specialized external service providers. Our team currently comprises 3 jewelers anda production manager, who monitors the progress of each order.

The different stages in creating an ethical alliance

  • Designing of an ethical piece of jewelry: This is generally a very pleasant phase for the customer, as they design or choose the piece of gold jewelry that best suits their image. Accompanied by our jewelry designers, they will have to decide whether they wish to create a completely made-to-measure piece or personalize an existing model. For example, you can choose the color of the gold, such as yellow gold, rose-champagne gold, red goldor palliaded white gold... He can also choose the texture of his choice and ring width.. For a bespoke project, the jewel can be created from a simple drawing or idea. • Raw materials and alloys This stage is partly taken care of by our production manager, who is responsible for ordering the materials needed to create your ethical jewel. When the gold arrives at the workshop, the alloy is already finished, depending on the gold color you want.

  • Metal casting: Sometimes the Fairmined gold sent to us is in plate or wire form. We also sometimes melt leftover metal at high temperatures so that it can be reused in our creations.

  • Lamination To create the ethical jewelry of your dreams, we sometimes have to stretch the gold wire to the right diameter, or laminate the gold into a plate.
  • Shaping: This stage consists of giving life to the gold jewel, by shaping its structure. To do this, our jewelers use a triboulet and then a mallet to obtain the desired shape.

  • The texture of the jewel: At Paulette, several textures are possible to make your jewel original and unique. Each texture is worked by hand by our jewelers. It is then checked several times, to ensure the perfect finish!

  • Punching You may have already noticed it on a previous piece of jewelry: the hallmark! It's a mandatory step, guaranteeing the origin and manufacture of your ethical jewelry. We offer two types of hallmarks: the master hallmark and the eagle-head hallmark.

  • Polishing To eliminate all traces of scratches and snags, our jewelers come to our workshop to polish your gold jewelry. Techniques vary depending on what you want for your handcrafted jewelry. Are you looking for a matte or polished finish?

  • Engraving Engraving: One of the final stages in the creation of a piece of fair trade gold jewelry is engraving. Most jewels are engraved in the workshop for classic or simple elements. For more complex designs or text, we use laser engravers or hand engravers.

  • Ultrasonic cleaning To properly clean your handcrafted jewelry, we place it in an ultrasonic tank filled with hot, soapy water.

  • Quality control Our production manager will then come and examine the jewel to make sure it meets all the criteria of your order. This is a crucial step, which will be carried out a second time by our boutique manager.

  • Setting Setting: Setting only applies to jewelry made of one or more stones. The metal part that supports the stone is called the setting.
